62.05-ALL. THOSE. ABS.

In the previous episode of the Smole, the contestants had to form three groups and draw objects. Mandy, Cecelia and Hugh were secretly adding their own objects to the images in hopes of confusing the guessers into giving them an exemption. Fortunately or not, the guessers identified the correct objects and earned the full 60 points from the mission, making it 83/126 points for the pot. The double execution saw Norman and Sullivan trapped as they became the first two victims of the season. Who will be next? Who is the Mole?

●◆●◆●◆●

Caitlin: "I'm sad that Sullivan was executed first. I liked the guy. He was funny and friendly and cute."

●◆●◆●◆●

Beverly: "Cait and I are working together, like obviously. We get along so well and never run out of things to talk about. But I'm not a fool to believe that this coalition is fully loyal."

●◆●◆●◆●

Carolina: "Norman's execution was a surprise. We all agreed on the same main suspect. Does this mean we're wrong?"

●◆●◆●◆●

Alan: "You're finally not in that stupid outfit for once."
Hugh: "The bit was getting stale."

Carolina: "Is nobody going to question why there is suddenly a statue on the table?"
Avery: "You mean it wasn't here before?"

Marshall: "There's something written on the back: Carnival is a famous festival characterised by elaborate parades, dancing and costumes, with a synthesis of European, African and indigenous influences. It is coming back to town and today you will get to take part in its festivities. Choose three flamboyant samba dancers and seven who would like to blend dance with martial arts."

Caitlin: "Marshall, you know martial arts. I presume your daughter does too."
Marshall: "I am not putting her in danger."
Carolina: "It's not dangerous. You taught me well."
Marshall: "That's true. I am a good teacher."
Avery: "I ain't good at dancing unless it's a hoe-down but I can fight."
Marshall: "Martial arts isn't about fighting."

Alan: "Both involve dancing but at least the other one has something cool to it too. I'm joining that group."
Beverly: "Me too."
Seraphine: "I think it will be interesting to see the blend. Count me in."

Caitlin: "That sounds fun."
Avery: "You can fight?"
Caitlin: "No but it's a chance to learn something new. It'll be fun!"
Carolina: "Join us Cecelia."
Cecelia: "There are too many going for the second group. I'll pass."

Hugh: "Hey don't I get a pick? I don't want to wear a bra and feathers."
Alan: "Nope. The slots are full. You wore a bunny costume so this can't be any worse."
Caitlin: "If you really don't want to wear that, I'll switch with you Hugh."
Hugh: "Thanks girl."

Avery: "Woah."
Alan: "Cool!"

Kai: "Ha!"
Hugh: "Woo! That was awesome!"
Alan: "I wanna learn that."

Kai: "You are in luck kid."
Kaleo:" Welcome. What you have just seen is a performance of Capoeira. It is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines dance and acrobatics. It originated right here in Brazil during the times of slavery. African slaves disguised fighting technique with dance to avoid being caught by slave owners. My grandfather taught it to me who learned it from his father who learned it from his father."

Kai: "They get the point. Now let's get some action. We will teach you some moves that you may perform at Carnivale tonight. Spread out and pay close attention."

Kaleo: "The most basic move is the gringa. All moves start with the gringa and end with the gringa. First, put one leg in front of the other. Raise your hand as if you are blocking your face."

Avery: "Woah, nearly fell."
Kai: "Keep a stable stance. You will be constantly moving so you need to have balance. You, with the funny hair. You're doing it wrong. Raise your arm up."

While the others learn capoeira, Mandy, Cecelia and Caitlin are at Teatros e Talentos Greenvalley to learn how to samba.

Florence: "I want to see what we are working with. Dance for me."
Taina: "Let the music flow through you. Show me how you move to the music."

Kaleo: "Let us move on to kicks. We start with the roundhouse kick, known as the martelo. Watch and repeat."

Avery: "Woah nearly fell."
Alan: "I'm not flexible enough. I shouldn't have worn these pants."
Beverly: "Ha! Child play."
Alan: "There's no way I'm losing to you."
Kai: "Higher!"

Kai: "You! Don't be lazy."
Hugh: "Just taking a breather. Is there a move like this in Capoeira?"

Mandy: "Whew, I'm getting tired."
Caitlin: "Me too."

Taina: "I see some of you have some more rhythm than others."
Florence: "Don't stop now. We'll be dancing all day and night at the Carnivale! You need to have stamina!"

Hugh: "Hope I didn't split anything."

Beverly: "These slaves were so creative."

Kaleo: "Now for the spin kick. This is known as armada."

Kai: "HIGHER!"

Florence: "When you walk, you need to have a bounce. Watch my hips and butt. One, two, three, four."
Taina: "Sway those hips as you walk."

Kai: "You must also learn how to block. We will teach you defensive moves. This is the rasteira. Kaleo will kick me. I do a sweeping motion in response to throw him off balance."
Kaleo: "Pair up. One of you will practice your high kicks while the other will practice your low kicks."

Hugh: "Hello old friend."

Carolina: "Don't hold back, Ba. I can handle it."
Marshall: "I won't. If you are going to learn a new martial art, you must learn it well."

Kai: "Now I will perform the ponte. I band backwards."
Kaleo: "Switch positions!"
Alan: "I'm not that flexible."

●◆●◆●◆●

Marshall: "I enjoyed learning about new martial arts. Brazilian martial art is different from Sim fu yet similar. It comprises kicks and hits too, and spins and dodges. Yet everything is so fluid and dance-like."

●◆●◆●◆●

Hugh: "Not gonna lie, the coaches were very strict."

●◆●◆●◆●

Hugh: "Now this is more like it."
Kai: "The queda de tres is to fall backwards, not forwards! You don't even know your front from your back?"
Seraphine: "I did not come here to be tortured."

Florence: "The bota fogo is one of the most recognisable dance moves. You step forward and then rock to the side. We then move in diagonals so that it looks like our feet are crossing over. Observe my feet. One, two..."

Taina: "Make sure you bring your weight back to the foot you moved on."
Caitlin: "I feel like I'm doing Zumba class."

Florence: "You are not in time, lady in red."
Mandy: "Oh! Sorry."
Caitlin: "It's so hard to keep up. It's so fast."

Kai: "I will show you the bananeira. It is a form of handstand. Find a wall if you can't do a handstand."

Marshall: "I cannot do that."
Beverly: "It's getting complicated."
Kaleo: "YOU! Pay attention!"

Taina: "This is called the volta. It's essentially a cross to the side. So one foot in front of the other, then to the side. The criss-cross should be small, then when we extend to the side it should be about hip-width."

Carolina: "Gymnastics class pays off."
Marshall: "I J! Watch your leg!"

Kai: "You can also do this with one hand and a kick."

Taina: "Now put it all together for the dance routine."
Caitlin: "What? I don't remember all the moves."

Florence: "Don't forget the hands!"
Cecelia: "Not forgetting it."
Caitlin: "Ah, what's next?"

●◆●◆●◆●

Mandy: "Caitlin is a model. She does photoshoots and surely has to remember simple choreography. Yet she was struggling to remember the directions during the rehearsal."

●◆●◆●◆●

Kai: "As he does the relogio, I perform the mei lua de compasso. I dodge him and then perform a kick."
Avery: "It's like watching a movie."
Seraphine: "I feel inspired to paint them."

Alan: "This is like breakdancing."

Mandy: "Aah! Nearly tripped over myself."

Caitlin: "To the side and then cross."
Cecelia: "Remember the hands."

Kaleo: "You lot should be ashamed of yourself. Beaten by a girl."
Hugh: "You should be proud of her rather than belittling her ability because of her gender you know."

Marshall: "I must at least try."
Seraphine: "They're combining everything."
Hugh: "Yeah not doing that."
Kai: "Don't be losers and give up."
Hugh: "If the prize is getting insulted like Beverly, I rather not win."
Alan: "Oh snap."

Florence: "Good. From the top!"

The contestants have just learned a set of Capoeira moves. They must now assign themselves to one of seven moves presented in front of them.

Seraphine: "This is Rasteira."
Avery: "What was that again?"
Alan: "The guy is bending low like he's carrying a log."
Avery: "I can do that. I carry logs all the time."
Marshall: "That seems like a good choice. I'll write his name down."
Hugh: "I'll watch you write his name down in the right spot."

Alan: "This pose is bending over backwards. We need someone flexible. Sadly that isn't me."
Marshall: "I nominate Carolina."
Carolina: "Okay."

Seraphine: "I forgot what this move was called but it's a side kick. His hands are to the right like a dance."
Marshall: "Beverly was a good kicker."
Alan: "So am I."
Carolina: "We have harder moves here which only Beverly can do. Let's not name her just yet."
Alan: "Then it'll be me."

Beverly: "I think this was called martelo or something. He's also doing a kick to the side."
Carolina: "I think it's a roundhouse kick."
Alan: "Oh put me there instead. I want to do the roundhouse kick."
Hugh: "Someone needs to do the dance kick."
Seraphine: "I can try that."

Carolina: "It's another kick but this is front facing. His hands are to the side."
Marshall: "I'll do it."

Avery: "He looks injured."
Carolina: "It's the breakdance move. He's going to do a sweeping kick."
Hugh: "I can't kick or balance to save my life but I can pretend to look like I'm a breakdancer."

Avery: "The last one's a one-hand handstand."
Carolina: "That's for Beverly."
Beverly: "Saving the best for last."

●◆●◆●◆●

Cecelia: "The carnival outfits are really slutty, and that's coming from a magician who has to wear strange costumes. And we have to dance in heels too?"

●◆●◆●◆●

Alan: "Ain't no way are they gonna put makeup on me. You're not converting me into a sissy boy."

●◆●◆●◆●

Marshall: "I don't see what the big deal is. Real men wore war paint. You wear camo paint in the military too."

●◆●◆●◆●

Beverly: "I absolutely loved playing dress-up. The best part is I got to see what the guys were hiding. The answer: ALL. THOSE. ABS."

●◆●◆●◆●

Night has fallen and it is time for the samba parade! Caitlin, Cecelia and Mandy are joined by a troupe of dancers. They will dance down the street to Praca XV. At specific points unknown to them, they will be judged on their execution of a specific dance move. Whether they succeed or not affects what the other group has to do.

Let's set some samba music to set the tone!

Caitlin: "Woo! This is so fun!"

In the meantime, the other seven are at Praca XV watching a Capoeira performance.

Avery: "They're amazing."
Carolina: "This is our last chance to revise."
Alan: "Oh my god. You are insufferable."

●◆●◆●◆●

The samba dancers have arrived at their first secret checkpoint. Here, Mandy will be assessed on her samba whisk.

If she executes it correctly, Alan will need to perform the bencao to earn 10 points. Otherwise, Avery will need to perform the rasteira to earn 10 points.

Florence: "Whisk!"
Mandy: "I'll just improvise."

●◆●◆●◆●

Carolina: "That's an au something."
Hugh: "Ow indeed."
Avery: "So cool."

Caitlin: "What a workout."
Taina: "Press on!"

Cecelia has to perform a volta circle at the second secret checkpoint.

If she succeeds, Carolina has to perform a ponte to earn 14 points. Otherwise, Hugh must perform a mei lua de compasso to earn 14 points.

Cecelia: "Aah! Lost my footing."
Caitlin: "Me too."

Caitlin: "Whisk again."
Mandy: "It's so hard to keep up."

●◆●◆●◆●

Like Mandy, Cecelia failed the secret test, so Hugh must perform the harder move.

The dancers have made it to Praca XV. There is one last secret checkpoint awaiting Caitlin.

Beverly: "Hey, are they..."
Seraphine: "It's Caitlin, Mandy and Cecelia."
Beverly: "I barely recognise them."

Caitlin must perform a botafogo and samba walk successfully. If she succeeds in both, Seraphine must perform the martelo to earn 20 points. If she succeeds in one, Marshall must perform the armada to earn 20 points. If she fails both, Beverly must perform the au quebrado to earn 20 points.

Mandy: "Oh no, I span too early."
Florence: "Just handle it naturally."

Caitlin: "Huff...huff..."

Taina: "1,2, bounce, 1,2, bounce."

Taina: "Now for the botafogo."

Cecelia: "And finish!"
Caitlin: "I feel like jelly all over."

●◆●◆●◆●

Caitlin executed both moves correctly, so Seraphine is the one who must perform later.

Carolina: "Oh, that's it."
Beverly: "Woo! Bravo! Bravo!"

"Contestants, I hope you are enjoying Carnival so far. Cecelia, Caitlin and Mandy have samba-d their way and unknowingly decided which of you will take part in the Capoeira performance. The two Capoeira instructors will be assessing whether you have done the move correctly."

"For 10 points, the assigned contestant needs to perform: rasteira."

Seraphine: "That is yours."
Avery: "Oh! Here! I'm coming."

Avery: "It's like this, right? Like carrying a log."

Avery: "Then I sweep with my leg."
Kaleo: "Hmm. Pass."
Kai: "Pass."
Avery: "Woohoo!"

"10 points have been earned. For 14 points, the assigned contestant needs to perform: mei lua de compasso."

Carolina: "That looked like the compasso move, but that was correct."
Beverly: "I think it was yours, Hugh."
Hugh: "Oh, so they wanna see some poorly executed breakdance? Coming right up."

Hugh: "Ha! Hee! Ha!"

Caitlin: "That can't be right."
Hugh: "All you need is confidence."

Kai: "Fail."

Kaleo: "I don't know what the hell that is."

"Unfortunately, that was not correct. To earn 20 points, the assigned contestant must perform: martelo."

Avery: "I remember this one. You wanted to do this one, I J."
Alan: "Yes I remember. You girls made the right choice."

Alan: "Ha!"

Kai: "Fail."
Kaleo: "Fail. That is bencao, not martelo."

"This means that 10/44 points have been earned tonight. The pot now stands at 93/170 points. Enjoy the rest of the night."

●◆●◆●◆●

The group gets an A for effort for their performance but an F in results as only 10/44 points have been earned. Did the Mole strike in the dark? Who is the Mole and who is left blind?
